MOST DANGEROUS INTERSECTIONS FOR
PEDESTRIANS IN NORTH FULTON
Walking in North Fulton should be safe — but the reality is that many of our busiest roads were designed for cars, not people. Every day, service workers, students, and families walk or bike through high-traffic corridors like Holcomb Bridge, Mansell Road, Old Milton, and Medlock Bridge to reach jobs, schools, and shopping centers. Unfortunately, poor pedestrian infrastructure and heavy traffic have made these areas some of the most dangerous spots for people on foot.
1. Holcomb Bridge Road at GA-400 (Roswell)
Stretching across eight lanes with long gaps in sidewalks, Holcomb Bridge carries some of the highest traffic in Metro Atlanta. Surrounded by low-income apartment communities where hundreds of residents walk daily, this intersection sees limited crosswalks and drivers merging at high speed onto GA-400 — all of which make every crossing high risk.
2. Mansell Road at Alpharetta Highway (SR-9)
With heavy retail and commercial development, this intersection has large numbers of drivers, service employees, and shoppers passing through hourly. The combination of short crosswalk signals, frequent lane changes, and speeding drivers creates regular conflicts between vehicles and pedestrians.
3. Old Milton Parkway near Avalon & North Point Mall
Avalon and North Point drive massive foot traffic, especially during evenings and weekends, from shoppers, service workers, and visitors. Entry and exit points for large retail areas bring vehicles moving at speed, while pedestrian crossings are often inadequate.
4. Medlock Bridge Road at State Bridge (Johns Creek)
This is one of North Fulton’s highest-volume intersections, handling over 105,000 vehicles per day according to recent traffic counts. Combine that with school zones, retail centers, and pedestrians attempting to cross busy arterial roads, and the result is a high risk of serious pedestrian-vehicle crashes. This intersection is regularly flagged in traffic safety and crash reports for its elevated danger for walkers and commuters.
5. Big Creek Greenway Crossings (Alpharetta/Johns Creek)
The Greenway is a popular trail for walking and biking, but crossings near Mansell, Haynes Bridge, and Old Milton put pedestrians into fast-moving traffic zones. Without improved safety measures, these areas remain high-risk for serious accidents.
